NETWORKING SKILLS

Employed at an organisation, I was asked to hold the counter at their annual international trade fair for the day. I had butterflies in the pit of my stomach because I had never sold anything before and received no formal training.

Thinking I'd fail and the company's reputation was important to them for services they provided their clients, the only way I could handle the situation was to be myself.

However, not only did I hold the counter, I walked around and talked with other trade people, and spent sometime with them also. I listened and learned more about the industry they worked in, and showed genuine interest in their company...collecting alot of brochures and freebies along the way.

I was requested by the Chairman to stay on for the entire three days conference and chatted to more international people from US to Japan etc., and most importantly for me had to be one of the most fundamental learning experiences. Being there.
