MAKING PRESENTATIONS

At Summer School, we had to do group work. It was to be a political debate. The tutor decided we were to role play. Each group had twenty minutes at the end to present their case for becoming President and with a sub-rosa majority vote after cross-examination by the other parties.

The group I was in began asking each other about their own political belief were (either were Labour or Conserverative). I stated that I belonged to the Humanitarian Party. They said there was no such party. I said "Yes, I just started one and it has one member so far- Me". I held strongly to this position so they let it go.

The tutor assigned us to role play the Communists. The team were extremely unhappy and was going to ask the tutor to be something else. I persuaded them that they could win. After a time, I was elected to represent the party. They asked what my strategy was going to be. I said I'll think about it when it was my turn...(oh the pressure.)

My opening speech to the class was:

"Before I begin this I would like to state here and now that I don't represent the Old Communist Party which was wholly believed. Marx got it wrong, so no questions can be discussed on his ideology or old communist policies they were wrong too. Now you can start asking me questions.."*

It was a tough Q&A and I outlined the new policies...but oh it was such fun.

So success is the result of preparation which can be at any time during the course of a career.  It's subjective to the outcome of any presentation that you do to put an idea or case forward to be considered.

* yes, our group won with a full majority vote.
