INTERPERSONAL SKILLS
It was my second job after leaving college. The set-up of the divisions was "divide and rule", by that I mean the engineers kept to themselves and so did the administrative people. And neither the twain shall meet and the only time they spoke to each other was if they had to. The training was minimal in the administrative side and I wanted a better understanding. There was no assistance from my boss nor the HR Dept. So I took it upon myself to ask an engineer called Mr Baker, he was about to retire (the other engineers laughed themselves silly). At lunchtimes I went into their dept, there he had the patience and kindness to teach me (in layman's terms) what the nuclear plans meant, how they fitted together, how he spotted mistakes in the drawings and using imagination what the nuclear installations would look like. Those were fun times, even at my goofs and I'll always remember him. He taught me that regardless of position, rank, a title or even age ~ everyone is valuable and an asset because they are human. All it cost....it was unmeasurable.
